Night Guards
If you’ve ever woken up with a sore jaw or sensitive teeth, you might be unknowingly grinding or clenching your teeth at night. These issues, if left unchecked, can lead to more serious dental problems like worn-down teeth or TMJ disorders. Custom night guards are an effective solution to protect your teeth and ease your pain and discomfort. Unlike over-the-counter options, custom-made night guards fit perfectly, offering you the comfort and protection your smile needs.
At Clemente Orthodontics, we’re here to make the process as easy and personalized as possible. We work with GuardLab to craft premium night guards designed just for you. Our family-run practice takes pride in offering solutions that fit seamlessly into your life and give you peace of mind. Whether you’re dealing with grinding or just want to protect your teeth, our team is here to assist you.
What Is a Night Guard?
A night guard is a custom-fitted device worn while you sleep to protect your teeth from grinding and clenching. These habits are known as bruxism, which can lead to worn enamel, cracked teeth, and persistent jaw pain over time if untreated. A well-made night guard serves as a cushion, absorbing the pressure from grinding and reducing stress on your teeth and jaw. With consistent use, a night guard can help you wake up feeling more refreshed and protect your smile from long-term damage.
Our orthodontists partner with GuardLab to create premium night guards tailored specifically to your needs. Made from high-quality, durable materials, our night guards are designed to fit comfortably and provide lasting protection. If you are experiencing discomfort due to nighttime grinding or clenching, we can ensure your night guard is perfectly crafted for a secure fit and optimal comfort.
Creating Night Guards
At Clemente Orthodontics, we use advanced 3D technology to create digital impressions of your teeth, eliminating the need for traditional messy and uncomfortable impressions. Before receiving your night guard, your orthodontist will help you decide which GuardLab device is right for you.
Next, you’ll need to visit our office for a 3D scan of your teeth. Our digital scan technology is fast and efficient, often taking less than 15 minutes. Your device will be created using your digital scan. Because GuardLab is located here in the United States, your night guard will ship to you in 10-14 business days.
Caring For Night Guards
Caring for your new night guard is essential to ensure it stays in good condition and remains effective over time. Proper maintenance not only extends the lifespan of your night guard but also helps prevent bacteria buildup, keeping your mouth healthy. A few tips to help you care for your night guard include the following:
At Clemente Orthodontics, we’re always here to support you in maintaining your device. Whether it’s a routine check-up, adjustments, or additional cleaning tips, our team is dedicated to helping you get the most out of your night guard and keeping your smile healthy.
Can I Wear a Night Guard If I Have Invisalign®?
If you’re currently undergoing Invisalign® treatment, it’s important to know that wearing a traditional night guard is not recommended. Invisalign® aligners are designed to move your teeth into their ideal position, and a night guard would interfere with this process. Since both devices fit snugly over your teeth, trying to wear them together would counteract the benefits of your Invisalign® treatment and could even lead to complications.
At Clemente Orthodontics, we understand the importance of protecting your teeth while also achieving your smile goals. If you’re concerned about teeth grinding during your Invisalign® treatment, we can discuss how to best meet your needs. Our priority is ensuring you get the most out of your treatment while maintaining your oral health and comfort.
Custom vs. Store-Bought Night Guards
We understand it may be tempting to just buy a night guard next time you’re at the store. While they are cheaper, they are a one-size fits all and may not fit perfectly over your teeth like our custom devices do. As a result, they may not be as effective at protecting your teeth when you grind and clench at night. Additionally, when you opt for one made by our team at Clemente Orthodontics, you will likely find it is more comfortable than a store-bought one, as this appliance is designed specifically for you.
HOW LONG WILL MY NIGHT GUARD LAST?
If you take proper care of your custom device, it can last several years. On the contrary, store-bought night guards are not as durable and will need to be replaced often. When you come to us for your dental check-ups, bring your custom appliance with you, and we will inspect it for any wear signs to determine if it needs to be replaced.
