Brace-Friendly Recipes
These soothing recipes are perfect for new braces-wearers and for patients who have recently undergone an adjustment.
This drink is high in calcium (great for young teeth and bones) and easy to make.
Ingredients
4 ice cubes
1 ¼ cup low-fat chocolate milk
1 banana, peeled and cut into chunks
1 teaspoon wheat germ
Directions
Place the ice cubes, chocolate milk, banana chunks and wheat germ into a blender. Blend together on medium speed until smooth (about 20 seconds), making sure all ice chips dissolve. Pour into a tall glass, and enjoy! (makes one 8-ounce serving)
This recipe is great for fruit-loving braces-wearers who want want to avoid the trouble of hard-to-chew fruits.
Ingredients
1 banana, peeled and cut into chunks
½ cup fresh berries (frozen berries work, too)
1 cup pineapple, grape or orange juice.
Directions
Place all of the ingredients into a blender. Blend together on medium until smooth (about 30 seconds). Pour contents into a pitcher, and chill in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes. Pour into a tall glass, and enjoy! (makes one 8-ounce serving)

1 egg
½ teaspoon salt
½ diced small onion
1½ tablespoons flour
1/8 teaspoon baking powder
1/8 cup milk
1½ cups cubed raw potatoes
Non-stick vegetable spray
Salt and pepper to taste
Directions
Place all of the ingredients into a blender, and blend until smooth (about 20-30 seconds). Coat a frying pan with the non-stick vegetable spray, and place over medium heat. Pour a portion of the pancake batter into the frying pan. Cook until the underside is golden brown, about two minutes. Turn the pancake over with a spatula. Continue to cook, until the bottom turns golden brown, about two minutes. Using a spatula, place the potato pancake on a plate. Repeat directions for the remaining batter. Salt and pepper to taste. Top with applesauce. (makes 6 medium pancakes)

2 cups cooked ground chicken breast
1 can cream of chicken soup
3/4 cup chicken broth
1 can (4 oz) chopped green chiles
1 jar (2 oz) diced pimentos
8 flour tortillas (soft taco style) cut into small pieces
2 1/2 cup cheddar cheese grated
Directions
In a large bowl, combine all ingredients and mix thoroughly. Reserve 1 cup of cheese for sprinkling on top. Pour into grease 9 x 13 x 2 casserole dish and bake at 350 for 20 minutes.

1 pound ground beef
1 medium onion chopped
1 clove garlic minced
10 flour tortillas cut into small bite size pieces
2 cups cheddar cheese grated
1 can (4 oz) green chiles chopped
1 can (4.5 oz) black olives chopped
1 can (10.75 oz) cream of chicken soup
1 can (10 oz) diced tomatoes and green chiles
1/2 cup water
Directions
In a skillet cook ground beef, onion and garlic. Drain and run through a food processor or blender. In a greased 9 x 13 x 2 casserole dish, layer half of the meat mixture, tortillas, cheese, green chiles and black olives. Repeat. In a medium sized bowl, combined the soup, diced tomatoes, green chiles and water. Mix thoroughly and pour over the top of layered ingredients. Preheat oven, bake covered at 350 for 1 hour.

1 medium onion
1 stalked celery chopped
2 1/2 cups fresh broccoli chopped
2 cups beef broth
1 tablespoon lemon juice
Dash of hot pepper sauce
2 cups milk or half & half
2 tablespoons flour
1/4-1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1/4 lb. cheddar cheese cubed
Directions
In a dutch oven, sautee onions and celery in the butter until tender. Add the broccoli, beef broth, lemon juice and hot pepper sauce. Cover, bring to a boil, reduce heat, and simmer 20-25 minutes until the broccoli is tender. Transfer this mixture to a blender or food processor and puree to a smooth consistency. Return to the dutch oven. In a 3 quart saucepan over low heat, melt the remaining butter and whisk in the milk, flour, salt, and pepper, stirring constantly until thick and bubbly. Add this and the cheese to the broccoli mixture and increase the heat. Stir until the cheese is completely melted and the soup is heated thoroughly. (makes 4 servings)
